If you have had breast implants put in, and quite some time has passed since you had the implants, you might be wondering about breast implant replacement cost. If you’re asking yourself “Is breast augmentation in Sydney cheap?”, read more to find out.
How long do implants last?
Probably the first logical question to ask is how would these implants last? The average lifespan of a saline or silicone implant would fall anywhere between 10 and 20 years. If there would be no cosmetic concerns, and if the implants would be well taken care of, there would be no problem in attaining the maximum lifespan of the implants.
However, some people would have their implants replaced or removed after only around 8 to 10 years. There would be telltale signs that a person could look out for them to know when it would be time to have the implants removed or replaced.
Sings that the implant needs to be changed or removed
Leakage and deflation. If the implant were to deflate, it would be because there is a hole or leak in the implant’s shell. The patient might no even notice that the leak is there until the whole implant becomes deflated or misshapen. Leaks are rare within the first few years, but as time passes by, there is an increased chance of this happening.
Hardening. The muscles around an implant can become hard. This could be a result of hardened scar tissue. This can cause tightness, pain, and tenderness to the breast.
Change in position. As time goes by, gravity will still take its toll on the implants. If there is a noticeable change in the positioning of the implant, it might be time for replacement or removal.
Rippling. This would occur when the implant would develop wrinkles or ripples. The change in the texture of the implant would show on the skin that is on top of it.
Implant removal or replacement
Whether you choose to have your implants removed or replaced, the cost would fall somewhere in between $2,500 to $7,000. Although the cost of removal would be lower than breast implant replacement cost.
You can increase the longevity of implants in many ways. Choose a size and shape that you would be happy with for 10 to 20 years, choose a good surgeon, follow all the post-operative instructions and have regular MRI’s to monitor your implants.
Have regular consults with your doctor to ensure that your implants would be well taken care of. If you feel that you are experiencing one or more of the signs mentioned above, consult your surgeon as soon as you can to prevent any infection on the breast.
